MascotsWhitburn fall to another home defeat

Whitburn took the lead on the hour and looked the better and more confident side after a number of near chances for both teams in the first half. Andy Doig head glancing a great Scott Murphy cross on the hour. Against the run of play Scott Lawrie bulleted the ball in off the underside of the bar in the 77th minute to draw Kelty level. In the final minutes Kelty's slightly superior match fitness showed through as man after man in the home side broke down with cramp (this being Whitburn's first game in four weeks) and it seemed they would hold out for a point. However, 2 minutes into added time and following a free kick to them, Whitburn were stunned by a goal from Neil McCabe as he turned in a Conrad Courts square ball. Match report

Our mascots for the game today were Blair (left) and Kieran who both play for the 1999 Whitburn Bluebell team. More pictures. Older mascots.

Since Glenrothes were on cup business today, Whitburn will remain second bottom of the league and looking to have a mountain to climb to avoid the drop with only 8 points from 10 games. The only saving grace is that the league is almost as tight as last season.

Fund Raising reminder!!

The Race Night was a great success on Friday 12 March, raising a good sum for the club, though only around fifty were in attendance. Major thanks are due to the organiser, Ralph Murphy, race, horse and jockey sponsors, all those who were there, those who donated prizes for the raffle and last, but not least the Clachan guys who once again ran it brilliantly. Actually, really last but not least, many thanks to the supporters of Linlithgow Rose who generously sponsored a race and all the horses and jockeys in that race - it really is much appreciated guys!

This will be folowed up by the Ladies section's Coffee Morning the following Saturday and contributions of home baking and prizes would be gratefully received. Tickets are now available for this at £1.50 in advance, though I'm sure you'll be able to pay on the door.

Transfer News

Andrew Doig, Colin Leiper, Ryan McGurk and Steven Weir have all been placed on the transfer list at their own request. Whitburn Juniors thanks them for their contributions to the club and wishes them well in thier future career. Interested clubs should contact the club secretary or email the website and I'll forward to him.

John Murphy has been transferred to Livingston United. John, who has had work committments that have made him an irregular starter, still wanted to play football but realised that he would struggle to get back to fitness for the top league. We wish him all the best with his new team.

Forthcoming Fundraising

The Ladies section have advised of two events coming soon for which they would be grateful for home baking and prizes. First up is another Coffee Morning on Saturday 20 March from 10-12. Then on 27 April there will be a Pie, Peas and Bingo night which starts at 7:30. As always any support that can be managed will help to keep the club afloat in these difficult times.

Saturday 13 March, kick off 2:30
Leahue
Whitburn 1-2 Kelty
Scorer: Doig

The winning numbers for the Whitburn Lottery drawn on Saturday 6 March were :

2 6 7 13

There was one winner who wins the prize of £800. Next week : £50.

Forthcoming Fund Raising Events

Keeping the club solvent is an ongoing battle as we retain most of our talented players who have to be paid at Super League rates. Gate money is no enough to pay the weekly wage bill so we have to rely on various fund raising events through out the year. This year is also Stewart Walker's testimonial year so there are additional events for this to raise some money for our faithful goalkeeper. Here is a list of what to look forward to and it is hoped that everyone will pull together to make these profitable for both Frankie and the club:
