Whitburn score 4 and win!!
Whitburn repeated their feat of scoring 4 goals of last week but this time defended far better and ran out 4-1 winners against Glenrothes. Experienced campaigner Andy Thomson played at centre half with Jamie Mackay sitting in front of the defence to try and tighten up after last week's leaky performance. Gary Millar scored in the eighth minute when he beat the offside trap and slotted the ball past Jamie Roberts in the home goal. 5 minutes later Thomson headed in his own goal under pressure from Jonathen Kelly to level the scores. The defence looked a bit dodgy for 10 or so minutes as Glenrothes looked quite dangerous and forced a couple of saves. Just on 45 minutes Millar doubled his tally hammering the ball into the net past two defenders when David Murphy had left Roberts stranded out wide after beating him to the ball. The last kick of the half saw Alan Mooney fire home a great free kick from the edge of the box which hit the top corner - the move was tried in training during the week. 2 minutes into the second half David Murphy sealed the points as he outpaced a home defender to get to the ball just inside the box and he slotted it past Roberts. Whitburn fans then sat and watched their team capably defend the lead, the only scare coming late when Lee Duffy hit a free through the wall but Franny Carlin pushed the ball round the post for a corner. Match report.

Signing News
Four more signings have been made this week : goalkeeper Franny Carlin, central defender Andrew Brown, Daryl Hampson and fellow midfielder David Cunningham.
Andy Thompson, the assistant to Mattie Coulter, was signed during the week. Formerly with Hurlford, for whom he scored 26 goals last season, experienced Andy will be a good signing given the young inexperienced nature of the club.
It is with great regret that we announce that Colin Leiper will very soon be leaving the club for Australia. We wish him and his family well in the future.
Mattie Coulter continues to look at a number of possibles from the large number of players that are continuing to turn up for training/trials. Although it is perhaps a little alarming that we don't seem to have nearly enough players, it is good that the manager is not panicking and rushing in to sign players to make up the numbers, and, we have enough signed to play games! The club are actively pursuing a number of more experienced players as some funds have been made available from our outgoings. Definitely signed so far are:
Gary Millar, the trialist that scored at Bathgate and who has netted 3 times in the two friendlies. Former Harthill midfielder Francis Mahon. Goalkeeper Mark Brown who was with Stoneyburn as an amateur. Ben Mackay who has stepped up from the Whitburn under 19 side. Former Carnwath Amateur player Paul Secker. Darren Wilson who played for Dalkeith Thistle last season. All the above players are around twenty years of age. Added to this are two more experienced players in the shape of Sean Maguire and David Martindale who has re-signed. David Murphy and Scott Murphy are also on the books in the second year of their contracts. More news as we get it.
Confirmed outgoings are Colin Strickland who has signed for Linlithgow Rose and Stewart Walker who will be playing for Armadale Thistle. Scott Gormley has signed for Whitehill Welfare. The club would like to thank them for their efforts for Whitburn and wish them well with their new teams.
