Whitburn got off to a great start as they opened the scoring within the first 8 minutes when a ball over the top of the defence was retrieved by Gary Millar and he rounded the keeper before netting the ball. Just after Millar had another good effort but this time Jamie Roberts made a good save. In the 14th minute, Whitburn who had defended terribly last week were levelled as under the pressure of Johnathen Kelly, Andy Thomson headed the ball past Franny Carlin. A minute later Ross Smith had a good long range shot but it flew wide of the goal as the home side stepped up the pressure. In the 32nd minute Darrren Wislon should have scored but he kneed a Scott Murphy cross across the face of the goal from the back post. 5 minutes later Millar blasted wide form an acute angle after trialist Barry Craig headed on a Wilson cross to him. On the half David Murphy chased a long ball and beat the keeper wide of his goal and crossed the ball into the middle where Millar controlled, composed himself and hammered the ball past two defenders on the line. Then into injury time D Murphy was felled as he rushed into the box by Craig Gibson who was yellow carded. With Scott Murphy and Jamie Mackay both poised over the ball, Alan Mooney slammed the ball into the top corner, converting a move the team had practised in training during the week.
Just two minutes into the second half the gap became three when David Murphy again outpaced a home defender to a good through pass and he poked the ball past the keeper from the edge of the box. On the hour a good break from Glenrothes ended with Mark Morrison getting in the box but as he was poised to shoot Mooney put him off and Carlin was able to dive at his feet. In the 27th minute David Martindale from all of 40 yards spotted Roberts off his line and tried an audacious loop which fell just wide. 2 minutes later Morrison should have netted as he headed a deep free over the bar when it would have been easier to score. Another shot went wide in the 76th minute from another great 3 on 1 break, Kelly being the culprit. With three to go Millar manoeuvred on the edge of the box but couldn’t get a shot away, instead feeding Craig whose pass eventually fell to David Murphy but his cross was cleared. Straight up the other end David Cunningham brilliantly blocked a goal bound shot by Chris McKie. The final action, in injury time saw a Lee Duffy free from the edge of the box and his good shot got through the wall but was pushed round the post by a diving Carlin.
